Hybrid Caoching, what is it and why could it be just what you need?
Hybrid coaching refers to a form of coaching that consists of “One on one Coaching” and remote coaching. So it is a mixture of face-to-face traininig sessions with the coach and training on your own following the instructions by your coach from an online platform. This can mean meeting the coach once a week and doing 2-3 workouts on your own as instructed by the coach.
“With Hybrid Coaching, I can make sure that the workouts are always tailored to the client's schedule. If we cannot find a time to meet up some week it is not such a big deal as I can still make sure the customer's workouts continue and they do progress!”
- Stadifit Personal Trainer Ansku
Hybrid coaching - adapts to your life, not the other way around!
Aside from the fact that it is easier to schedule workouts around your other commitments, there are other benefits of hybrid coaching:
Coaching 24/7, 7 days a week, not just at times you meet face-to-face
Lower overall cost compared to face-to-face coaching
Support and feedback available in a regular basis and not just at times you meet
You get all the benefits of coaching, such as being always responsible for the workout to the coach, which increases your commitment, and the workouts are always designed to meet your personal goals and needs
“Although hybrid coaching is often a cheaper form of coaching, it usually gives me the opportunity to offer much more than just the face-to-face session alone. In addition to meeting face-to-face and making sure the client learns the correct movement techniques, I can provide a comprehensive workout plan including all weekly workouts, weekly e-mail exchanges and workout tracking for the duration of the entire coaching package. I see in real time when the client has been training and when not and I can contact if it seems that the agreed workout program has not been followed and I can also adjust the program as needed. Face-to-face coaching alone allows this exchange of news only during our meetings so I cannot react so quickly to changes in their training needs f.ex in a case where the client has slipped and hurt himself. ”, Ansku adds.
Hybrid coaching also teaches you to take responsibility of your own training. While the coach is there to support you, it is important to learn to get motivated by yourself and to take responsibility even when the coach is not there. When the coaching package sometimes runs out, it is important that you have been able to create routines that are easy to stick with. If the coach has always told you what to do, what weights to use and when to stop, it is hard to suddenly make the change and start training on your own. At worst it may be that your training stops completely.
Lena has been training with our Coach Ansku from 2012. She initially started with regular face-to-face coaching sessions but later started also attending our Small Group CrossFit classes and changed to hybrid coaching model.

“ MY DESIRE TO START WITH A PT CAME FROM THE FACT THAT I WANTED TO FIND MORE STRUCTURE, MOTIVATION AND JOY IN TRAINING”
Ansku and I have a long history together. I have been training with Ansku at Stadifit from the very beginning and aleady before. Initially, my desire to start with a PT came from the fact that I wanted to find more structure, motivation and joy in training. I had been going to the gym and group classes, but the training that I did was not structured at all and I mostly did things in my comfort zone without seeing major resuts. It started to feel bored and I saw hardly any result. Also, my back had started to have symptoms due to osteoarthritis. I was 40 years old, and woke up to the fact that at this age I must build the foundation for the rest of my life.
”MY MOTIVATION HAS STAYED HIGH AS THE WORKOUTS ARE ALWAYS VARIED AND CHALLENGING BOTH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY. OFTEN, EMBRACING SOMETHING NEW IS NOT JUST ABOUT GAINING POWER, IT REQUIRES OVERCOMING YOUR OWN FEARS AND PRECONCEPTIONS. OVER THE YEARS I HAVE LEARNED A LOT ABOUT MY OWN STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES.”
My first goal was just to find the joy of training and to improve my physical condition in general. We met with Ansku once a week to train together and on top of that I did the programmed workouts myself. My fitness started to improve and a new spark was found for training. And the same spark still remains! My motivation has stayed high as the workouts are always varied and challenging both physically and mentally. Often, embracing something new is not just about gaining power, it requires overcoming your own fears and preconceptions. Over the years I have learned a lot about my own strengths and weaknesses.
Along with PT workouts, I started participating in small group crossfit classes at Stadifit and found a whole new world. The training community is awesome and group activities are fun and inspiring. Coaching is varied and challenging, but there is always a scaled option to fit your current level and needs. Everyone works out according to their own condition and the coaches are careful that the movements are done correctly and safely. Even on a day that I am not feeling my very best, I never regret coming to training as the feeling after is always good.
“ BY FAR MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE WAS LUMBAR SPINE SURGERY, WHICH I DID INCREDIBLY WELL. BEFORE THE SURGERY, I DID AS MUCH EXERCISE AS POSSIBLE IN SUPPORT OF MY WELL-BEING, AND HALF A YEAR AFTER THE SURGERY, ANSKU GENTLY PUSHED ME BACK TO TRAINING. BACK PAIN IS JUST A BAD MEMORY.”
I have also suffered from some injuries and accidents along the way, but I have always received good training instructions for these exceptional situations. By far my biggest challenge was lumbar spine surgery, which I did incredibly well. Before the surgery, I did as much exercise as possible in support of my well-being, and half a year after the surgery, Ansku gently pushed me back to training. Back pain is just a bad memory.
“ A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO I FOUND A NEW MOTIVATION TO START RUNNING AS I ATTENDED ANSKU’S RUNNING TECHNIQUE COURSE”
I've always liked the outdoors and running and couple of years ago found a new motivation to start running as I attended Ansku’s Running Technique Course. I got excited about the new challenge even though learning new running technique was really tough at the beginning and already running for a few minutes felt tough. Then the pieces just somehow started to come together and running began to feel much smoother. I set myself a goal for learning how to run properly so that I would enjoy it. Now I have been practising running with Ansku’s intructions and help for a couple of years already and my enthusiasm has just grown! I’ve already reached major goals and at the moment my goal is to run 10 km.
“SINCE I HAVE ALREADY REACHED A GOOD BASIC FITNESS AND AT THE MOMENT I DO NOT HAVE ANY SPECIFIC NEEDS THAT WOULD REQUIRE WEEKLY PT SESSIONS, BY THE PROPOSAL OF ANSKU I STARTED THIS SO CALLED REMOTE COACHING. IT INCLUDES WORKOUT PROGRAMS AND COMMUNICATION THROUGH THE WORKOUT APP”
Since I have already reached a good basic fitness and at the moment I do not have any specific needs that would require weekly PT sessions, by the proposal of Ansku I started this so called Remote Coaching. It includes workout programs and communication through the workout app. From the App I can see the instructions and videos on how to perform movements as well as the daily workouts designed by Ansku. In person meetings we have once a month or as needed.
Ansku will update the training program for the agreed period according to pre-agreed goals. Along the way, the program can be modified if needed. Currently the main focus of the training is running. The program includes goal-oriented running training 3x a week, plus varied strength training twice a week, not to forget the mobility and active recovery days. For running training, I send Ansku a message through the App about how the trainings have gone and if there has been some challenges along the way. We also have a weekly catch up via email which come in handy when I need some extra tips or instructions for the week ahead.
The app is really convenient to use. You can, for example, postpone your workouts on the calendar according to your own schedules, but of course you should try to keep the training schedule planned by the coach so that the training stays balanced. There are videos and instructions of all the movements showing how to perform them correctly with tips for some common mistakes. My motivation level has stayed high as the program is always goal-oriented and varied. Before training, I go through the “ manu of that day” with a thought and then just hit the pavement.
“ NOW MY GOAL IS TO RUN 10 KM. REACHING THIS GOAL IS ALREADY CLOSE AND THEN I NEED TO PLAN FOR THE NEXT STEPS.”
Now my goal is to run 10 km. Reaching this goal is already close and then I need to plan for the next steps. For the winter, training moves from slippery running tracks to indoors, and I will definitely do more crossfit. So my next running goal might be late in the spring, but there are plenty of goals and things I want to focus on at the gym too.
I'm really pleased with Ansku’s Coaching. I trust her professionalism and eye for giving me just enough challenge that I both see results and can keep the motivation and joy of training just as high as it has been so far. Training is also safe as Ansku has a sharp eye for making sure the movements are done correctly. Training has never felt boring. I have also learned to listen to my body and realized the importance of mobility and recovery training as well as the importance of keeping a good balance between resting and exercising.
